MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Muskegon police say a 13-year-old boy shot himself in the foot with a revolver near a football game at Muskegon High School last week.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1pnEyOo ) police say the teen may be charged as a juvenile offender for weapons-related crimes in the Aug. 29 incident. They say the boy threw the gun near the high school after the shooting.

The teen initially told police it was a “random act of violence” while he was taking a shortcut home. He later said he shot himself with a revolver while checking whether it was loaded. He told them he found it in the street.

Police say the incident and the origin of the gun are still under investigation. They say the shooting wasn’t connected to the football game.
