RENO, Nev. (AP) - An armed man was shot and killed by members of a regional law enforcement fugitive apprehension team in Reno on Wednesday, and another man was arrested after a four-hour search east of downtown, police said.

The man who died wasn’t immediately identified, but Reno police Officer Tim Broadway said he had been sought by a multi-agency task force. Broadway said he didn’t immediately know the underlying charge against him.

Broadway said the man wielded a handgun before he was shot by at least one officer. The police spokesman said he didn’t immediately know how many shots were fired, and he declined to disclose which agency the officer or officers who fired shots were from.

“We know a gun was involved and it was pointed toward the officers,” Broadway told reporters at the scene. “The suspect that officers were looking for had exited the vehicle. He was shot, the other subject fled.”

Nearby schools and the Washoe County Senior Center were locked down until officers apprehended the second man. Buses helped evacuate people from the area.

The man was found in an unoccupied home two blocks away, Broadway said, and was arrested for questioning.

The second man was not believed to have been armed, Broadway said.

No bystanders or law enforcement officers were injured, he added.
