IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The University of Iowa is seeking to build a new residence hall for 800 students as part of a plan to expand enrollment.

Documents released Tuesday show the Board of Regents will consider next week whether to approve planning for the project, which would be located on the east side of campus near Burge Hall.

The proposal comes while construction continues on the Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall on the west side of campus, the school’s first new dorm since 1968.

University officials say they anticipate needing more undergraduate housing as the school plans to increase its 31,000-student enrollment in the coming years. Its housing system has been at its 5,600-student capacity for a decade.

The building would cost an estimated $80 million and be up to 10 stories tall.
