AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Austin school district has been awarded nearly $350,000 in federal funding for improvements to fine arts education.

The Austin American-Statesman reports (https://bit.ly/1mJh77A ) Monday that the U.S. Department of Education grant will fund three new hires in theater and dance. It will also support professional development in elementary music education throughout the district.

The district’s fine arts director says the new faculty members will work with all grade levels. He says the district is in its third year of an initiative to train all teachers to integrate art into their lessons.
