CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton is coming to North Carolina to help raise money for U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s re-election campaign.

Clinton was slated to be in Chapel Hill on Tuesday to headline a fundraising luncheon for the first-term Democrat. Hagan’s campaign said the event at The Carolina Inn was private and closed to the media.

Hagan is running against Republican Thom Tillis.

Bill and Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, gave birth to her first child last Friday. The girl named Charlotte was born at a New York hospital.

Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992 and 1996 but failed to carry North Carolina on either occasion. Hillary Clinton is now considering a 2016 presidential bid.
