FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - An 18-year-old Casa Grande woman is in custody, accused of making false reports.

Corlei Scavo allegedly told one of her professors at Central Arizona College that she missed two weeks of school because her 2-year-old son was abused by his father and had been hospitalized since Sept. 6.

The professor reported the allegations to the school’s police department and officers interviewed Scavo.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau was contacted and detectives determined Scavo’s son hadn’t been in any Arizona hospitals and was in Arizona City with Scavo’s mother and stepfather.

Authorities say Scavo is being held at the county jail in Florence in suspicion of false reporting to law enforcement agency and false reporting of child abuse or neglect.

It was unclear Tuesday if she has a lawyer.
