WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A New Hampshire woman who was behind the wheel when her car crashed, killing her boyfriend, on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Westborough has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Julie Hellinger of Nashua, New Hampshire was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in Worcester Superior Court to motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently in connection with the December 2009 crash.

The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/1xwqT0W ) reports that the 50-year-old Hellinger was also sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to stay drug and alcohol free.

Hellinger was driving when her car crashed into a guardrail at about 3 a.m. Dec. 31, 2009. Her passenger, 49-year-old Geoffrey Kennedy, of Nashua, was ejected and suffered fatal injuries.

Prosecutors say Hellinger had consumed alcohol, cocaine and prescription medications before the crash.
