PALATKA, Fla. (AP) - A north Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal home invasion.

A Putnam County judge sentenced 38-year-old Gary Stephen Bennett Jr. on Monday. He was convicted in August of first-degree murder, burglary while armed, robbery with a firearm and grand theft auto.

Authorities say Bennett broke into 52-year-old Maureen Haugdahl’s Interlachen home in May 2012 and fatally shot her. Bennett ransacked the home and stole several items, including the woman’s vehicle.

The Gainesville Sun (https://goo.gl/u76MaV ) reports that DNA evidence linked Bennett to the scene and to the car keys of the victim’s vehicle.
