POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a 72-year-old woman whose body was found in the Grand River in western Michigan after she was beaten to death.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa County sheriff’s department says it has a “person of interest” in the case.

The Grand Rapids Press and WHTC-AM report the body of Sharon Roersma of Coopersville was found Monday morning by two men as they launched a fishing boat in Polkton Township, northwest of Grand Rapids. An autopsy showed she had head injuries and was dumped in the water.

Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett says investigators “don’t have a murder weapon, but it is clear she was beaten to death.”

Roersma was reported missing Monday afternoon by her son. Investigators don’t believe her body was in the water a long time.
