KENNER, La. (AP) - State police are investigating a hit-and-run on Interstate 10 allegedly involving an 18-wheeler whose driver was found dead several hours later behind the wheel of his truck.

A concerned co-worker discovered the truck pulled over on the highway’s left shoulder at Causeway Boulevard with the driver dead inside around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Louisiana State Police Troop B spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey said the same truck was involved in a hit-and-run roughly 10 hours earlier, about two miles west.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/10l1vNI ) Matey said no one was hurt when the truck allegedly sideswiped a car around 5 a.m.

Authorities don’t suspect foul play in the driver’s death. Rather, a preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have suffered some kind of medical condition that caused the hit-and-run as well as his death, Matey said.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, she said.

The driver’s age was not immediately available, and his name is being withheld pending family notification, Matey said
