HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Huntington’s mayor has appointed a retired FBI agent as the city’s next police chief.

Joe Ciccarelli would replace Skip Holbrook. Holbrook resigned in March to take a similar job in Columbia, South Carolina.

Media outlets report that Mayor Steve Williams announced Ciccarelli’s appointment on Monday. The appointment must be approved by City Council.

The 57-year-old Ciccarelli began his law enforcement career with the Huntington Police Department in 1978. He joined the FBI as a field agent in the early 1980s. He retired from the FBI earlier this year and had been working as an investigator for the West Virginia Supreme Court.
