ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Tim Scott is helping high school students learn about applying to the nation’s service academies.

This week, the South Carolina Republican is hosting twelve informational sessions throughout the state. On Tuesday, meetings are being held in Anderson and Florence. Events are scheduled for later in the week in Aiken, Columbia, Greenville, Greenwood and North Charleston.

On Monday, Scott hosted meetings in Beaufort, Orangeburg, Spartanburg and Union. These sessions allow students and their families to learn about the nomination and application process and ask questions about attending a service academy.

Earlier this year, Scott nominated 59 students from across South Carolina to be considered for an appointment to one of the five service academies.
