PAOLI, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 16-year-old girl died in southern Indiana when the all-terrain vehicle she was driving flipped over.

State conservation officers say Bailey Carty of Paoli (pay-OH’-lee) was riding her grandmother’s ATV on wooded property in rural Orange County when the crash happed Monday afternoon. Officers say Carty’s grandmother went looking for her when she hadn’t returned in about an hour, finding the girl unconscious underneath the overturned ATV.

Emergency crews were unable to revive the girl at the scene about 40 miles south of Bloomington.

Officer Jim Schreck says the teen wasn’t wearing a helmet or any safety equipment.
