JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Barbara Travis is retiring Tuesday after 13 years as the executive director of the Mississippi World Trade Center.

The Mississippi World Trade Center is a nonprofit organization that fosters international trade and economic growth in Mississippi and the Mid-South region.

The center was created in 2001 and Travis was its first executive director.

She has worked on international business development and expansion of international trade, investment and tourism activities in Mississippi.

Before joining the center, Travis developed MarketLynx Consulting, a consulting practice focused on corporate and community marketing and economic and community development.

Travis has a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women, a master of arts degree from Mississippi State University and has completed coursework for a doctorate in international development from the University of Southern Mississippi.
