TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A former FBI special agent has pleaded guilty along with his wife of hiding her income from her ownership of a retail pharmacy.
Prosecutors say 47-year-old Pritesh Desai and 45-year-old Darshna Desai, both of Watchung, surrendered Thursday morning and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to defraud the IRS.
Pritesh Desai was a special agent with the FBI’s New York field office before resigning in July 2013.
Prosecutors say Pritesh Desai admitted to giving false information to the FBI when submitting financial disclosure forms and say the pair filed false personal income tax returns. Prosecutors say they hid between $200,000 and $400,000.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Scheduling was set for Dec. 11.
