BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Two men were gunned down overnight in Birmingham’s 7th and 8th killings in less than a week, police said.
In the most recent slaying, a gunman opened fire from a car, killing a man as he stood outside his apartment around 12:01 a.m. Thursday, police said. The victim had been talking with a friend when the dark-colored SUV drove by and the shots were fired, WBRC-TV reported.
Latrell Hines, 23, was gunned down in a separate killing around 10 a.m. Wednesday, authorities tell Al.com. In that case, police say Hines had come out of his house and was shot on the porch by another man after an altercation. The suspect left in a dark or burgundy-colored car, police said.
Others killed in the past week include two men shot in a gun battle outside the Showstoppers Motorcycle Club; a 71-year-old woman stabbed in a break-in at her home; and a man shot during a robbery attempt as he walked through a park with his wife.
The men in the most recent killings late Wednesday and early Thursday are the city’s 36th and 37th victims this year, Al.com reported.
