DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped one of the criminal charges against the suspended CEO of DeKalb County.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the dismissed charge accused Burrell Ellis of canceling the contract of a former county insider when she wouldn’t support his re-election (https://on-ajc.com/1BgEkkL ). Ellis’ trial is scheduled to begin Monday, with 13 remaining charges.

The newspaper reports that court documents did not explain why prosecutors dropped the charge, and prosecutors declined comment because of a gag order in the case.

Ellis is accused of pressuring county vendors for campaign donations and has been indicted on more than a dozen charges including theft, extortion and conspiracy. Ellis has denied any wrongdoing.
