CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - A Fairfax woman has been charged with international kidnapping after authorities forced a China-bound flight she boarded with her 4-year-old son to return to Dulles Airport.

An affidavit filed Friday in federal court in Alexandria alleges that Wenjing “Linda” Liu and her son boarded the flight despite a court order barring her from taking the boy out of the country without her ex-husband’s permission.

The flight took off Thursday afternoon from Dulles, but United Airlines returned the plane to the airport about five hours after takeoff after being alerted to the situation.

According to the affidavit, Liu told her ex-husband that she needed to fly to China to see a dying grandmother. But the investigation revealed that the tickets had been purchased before Liu had supposedly learned of the illness.
