PHOENIX (AP) - A former Arizona Department of Corrections officer who was accused of having sex with an inmate in a prison van has been put on probation after pleading guilty to a reduced charge.

A Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman says Commissioner Jeffrey Rueter on Friday sentenced Anthony James Marotta to three years of probation on his conviction for attempting to commit unlawful sexual conduct with a person in custody.

Marotta entered into a plea agreement in July. He originally was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a person in custody.

The Department of Corrections says Marotta resigned Dec. 31.
