STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) - A 28-year-old man Bancroft man convicted of killing his girlfriend’s son has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

WSAW-TV (https://bit.ly/1rfVY0P ) reports Reymundo Perez will be on 20 years extended supervision after he gets out of prison.

In June, a jury found Perez guilty of first-degree reckless homicide and child abuse.

Deputies were called to a home in the Town of Pine River, outside of Bancroft, on Oct. 26, 2011, on a report of a child having trouble breathing.

Prosecutors say Perez threw 2-year-old Felix Espinoza-Villa on the ground to try to stop him from crying. Court documents say the boy suffered multiple injuries, including a severed spine, and died two days later.
