DENVER (AP) - Police are investigating after a worker at a Denver scrap yard was killed while he was trying to free material from a jammed baler.

Department spokesman Sonny Jackson tells The Denver Post (https://dpo.st/1pUcCb6 ) the Atlas Metal & Iron Corp. employee was killed when the machine jolted into him just after 8 a.m. Friday. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or where he was injured.

The business remained closed Friday, and a steady stream of customers was turned away at the gate later in the morning.

Atlas’ website says the locally owned and operated business has been around since 1956.
