WARE, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say the driver of a car that was involved in a police pursuit is dead after the vehicle overturned in Ware.

The Ware Police Department says 26-year-old Dean K. Latulippe of Barre died in the crash on West Warren Road around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The Northwest District Attorney’s Office says an initial investigation shows that Latulippe was traveling east from West Street onto Main Street when he failed to stop for a police officer. That triggered a police pursuit for several minutes, but the officer abandoned the chase after Latulippe accelerated while driving on South Street.

The officer found the overturned vehicle about 1¼ miles down the road. Latulippe, who was alone in the car, was found dead about 60 feet from a steep embankment.

An investigation is continuing.
