MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - Cerro Gordo County is asking a court for permission to tear down private property just outside of Mason City limits.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1wcACG1 ) that the count is suing Jeffrey Christiansen, saying his property is a public health nuisance.

Court records say the property holds a deteriorated house and buildings that harbor rodents and pests. The county also says the property has an excessive accumulation of debris, rubbish and junk.

The county is requesting that the cost of the demolition be entered as a lien against the property.

A phone number for Christiansen could not be found.
