SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Sioux City public schools educator has been named Educator of the Year by the National Indian Education Association.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1wcAYfY ) that the award recognizes Marilyn Charging’s work to improve academic performance and graduation rates for Native American students.

Charging is the director of pupil services and equity for the Sioux City Community School District.

Charging will receive the award at the National Indian Association’s Conference in Anchorage, Alaska, in October.
