YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - Yankton police are getting “less-than-lethal” munitions from their counterparts in Vermillion.

The Yankton Press and Dakotan reports (https://bit.ly/1qp7s6f ) that the Vermillion City Council last week declared the expired munitions as surplus and authorized the transfer to Yankton police.

The items include rubber rounds, tear gas and smoke canisters.

Police say the items will be used only for training.
