PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a man who was hit by a vehicle while walking in the middle of a road is not expected to survive.

Officer James Holmes says officers found the 32-year-old victim in the middle of Broadway Road at 1 a.m. Sunday with serious injuries.

Holmes says he is listed in extremely critical condition.

A 20-year-old woman who had been driving a Cadillac in the area returned to the scene and told police she initially thought she had hit an animal or someone had thrown a rock at her windshield.

Police then determined that it was the Cadillac that had hit the pedestrian.

Authorities say the driver, accompanied by her parents, was cooperative and no charges are pending at this time.
