ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has died nearly a month after his grandfather was killed when their ATV went through the ice of a lake in western Minnesota.

The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office says Hayden Minnerath of Alexandria died Monday at Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis, from complications of a near-drowning.

The boy and his grandfather, 50-year-old James Minnerath, were riding an ATV that broke through the ice of Lake Andrew near Alexandria on March 3.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office says James Minnerath died after being airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Authorities say Minnerath had been celebrating his 50th birthday and riding the ATV on the lake with his grandson.
