IRONDALE, Ala. (AP) - Norfolk Southern Railway officials say they’re working to clean the area near the scene of a train derailment in Irondale.

Spokeswoman Susan Terpay tells AL.com (https://bit.ly/1NKdBU0 ) two train cars that derailed Tuesday night were carrying a powder used for making rubber and sodium hydroxide.

Terpay says some of the substances began leaking after the derailment and environmental contractors have been working to clean the area.

The cause of the derailment is unclear.
