WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - The defense attorney for a southwestern Pennsylvania man accused of having killed his wife as she slept two years ago is seeking to use an insanity defense.

Seventy-two-year-old Ronald Powell of Carroll Township is charged in Washington County in the March 2013 shotgun shooting death of 62-year-old Leslie Powell.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (https://bit.ly/1bPLeGd ) reports that public defender Glenn Alterio is citing two evaluations that have diagnosed his client as having psychiatric disorders.

A county judge was scheduled to hold a hearing on the defense request Wednesday but postponed it for 60 days in order for attorneys to come up with a treatment plan in case he rules in favor of the motion.

Court records indicate that evaluations for both prosecution and defense concluded that Powell has a delusional disorder.
