GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Carbondale man who allegedly confessed to killing his wife after crashing his SUV told investigators that he stabbed her during an argument and then wanted to kill himself.

According to an arrest affidavit released Wednesday, 46-year-old Arturo Navarrete-Portillo said he couldn’t remember what the Feb. 16 fight was about and said that he “kind of went crazy.” He said he didn’t remember anything about crashing into a cattle truck later that morning.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent https://bit.ly/1bPIbxN ) reports that police say he confessed to killing his wife on a helicopter flight to the hospital, talking to a crew member who spoke Spanish.

He provided a description of where their home was but no address. The body of 30-year-old Maria Carminda Portillo-Amaya wasn’t found until about 10 hours after the crash.
