YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota corrections officials say a minimum security inmate from Yankton is missing.

Yankton Minimum Unit inmate John Collins was last seen at his community work site in Yankton at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Officials say they placed Collins on “escape status” after he left the site without authorization.

The 30-year-old Collins is currently serving a 10-year sentence for grand theft, a five-year sentence for forgery and a 10-year sentence for third-degree burglary.

Collins is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds.

Anyone who sees Collins or knows of his whereabouts should contact law enforcement immediately.

There are approximately 800 minimum-security inmates housed across the state, including 260 at the Yankton Minimum Unit.
