LOS ANGELES (AP) - Members of a SWAT team on Wednesday arrested a former Los Angeles Police Department employee following a standoff prompted by a domestic violence incident, authorities said.

Officers used tear gas and a stun gun to subdue the woman about nine hours after she holed up inside a home in the Van Nuys area, Officer Liliana Preciado said.

The suspect, a former LAPD communications division employee, was not identified.

At least one weapon was found inside the home, Preciado said, without elaborating.

The suspect’s boyfriend sustained minor injuries. He was able to leave the home and call police.

Preciado said the victim is currently employed by the Police Department, but she did not have additional details.

Negotiators worked all night to convince the woman to surrender, but she refused, even after tear gas was pumped into the residence, officials said.

Several nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff.

Officers responded Tuesday to a previous domestic incident at the home, but there was no evidence of a crime, said Captain Andy Neiman.
