BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Barre man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to using a handgun to rob a convenience store last year.

Twenty-eight-year-old Lee Jay Manning was sentenced on Friday for the robbery at the Barre Cumberland Farms Feb. 12, 2014. Court records say he was apprehended shortly after the robbery and had in his possession a semi-automatic handgun. No one was injured in the robbery.

Federal prosecutors say Judge Christina Reiss considered the seriousness of the offense, Manning’s history of substance abuse, and his recent efforts at rehabilitation among other factors at sentencing.

The judge also ordered Manning to serve three years of supervised release when he gets out of prison.
