LAS VEGAS (AP) - A man who police say shot and killed an acquaintance after a scuffle over a greeting is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.

The warrant for 31-year-old Douglas Smalley’s arrest says eyewitness accounts led detectives to believe he was responsible for the killing of Dan Archie near an apartment complex west of Nellis Air Force Base.

Eyewitnesses told Las Vegas detectives that Archie argued and fought with Smalley after believing Smalley had disrespected a mutual friend by not greeting him. The arrest warrant says Smalley left and returned shortly after, shooting at Archie.

Police spokesman Jesse Roybal says Smalley was arrested Dec. 9 in Lancaster, California and brought to Nevada in April.

Court records indicate Smalley doesn’t have a lawyer yet.
