BLOOMINGDALE, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in eastern Ohio say an elderly man has died after becoming trapped underneath his tractor.

Officials in Jefferson County say a Bloomingdale man in his mid-70’s had been working on a tractor in his barn Thursday afternoon. The man’s neighbors suspected something was wrong when the tractor was still running hours later.

Jefferson County Coroner Michael Scarpone tells WTOV-TV (ttp://bit.ly/1HYCw2J ) in Steubenville that he suspects the man was preparing the tractor for spring and jumping the battery when the vehicle lurched forward, trapping him underneath.

Officials haven’t publicly identified the man or released any more details regarding the incident.
