BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Gallatin County man suspected in a domestic abuse case shot and killed himself while being pursued by Montana Highway Patrol troopers in Yellowstone County.

Capt. Keith Edgell says the 47-year-old man was wanted for a partner or family member assault charge in Gallatin County and had led deputies in Gallatin and Park counties on pursuits on Thursday. A trooper saw the man’s pickup eastbound on Interstate 90 on Wednesday afternoon and followed him.

Officers used a spike strip, which punctured one tire of the pickup, but officers said the man maintained control of the vehicle.

Edgell says the man’s pickup suddenly veered to the left, struck a guardrail east of Lockwood and rolled. Edgell says evidence indicated the man shot himself, causing the crash.
