DALLAS (AP) - A North Texas man described by authorities as a serial rapist has been sentenced to life in prison for attacking four women over a two-month period.

Former crime-watch volunteer Van Dralan Dixson pleaded guilty Friday to sexual assault and aggravated robbery in a Dallas neighborhood where at least eight rapes were reported over two months in 2013. The Dallas Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/1Gy5KrM ) that 40-year-old Dixson appeared in court Friday to make the plea to state District Judge Ernest White.

Police announced in September 2013 that they believed a serial rapist was attacking and robbing women at gunpoint. Dixson was in custody briefly and provided a DNA sample.

After being charged, Dixson fled, but was found days later at a Baton Rouge, La., hotel.
