HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation are backing federal legislation that honors a first-grader killed in the Newtown school shooting.

A bill from U.S. Richard Blumenthal would provide expanded support to train teachers in social and emotional learning. It honors of 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, one of the 26 students and educators killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.

Scarlett Lewis founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation after her son’s death. The organization is focused on programs and curriculum for children, teachers and parents that encourage peaceful and positive interactions.

Scarlett Lewis and other family members are expected to join Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy, Rep. Elizabeth Esty and various educators on Monday in Hartford to unveil the bill.
