ALBANY, Ore. (AP) - An Albany man has been arrested for allegedly causing a baby’s traumatic head injury in March.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1IUvBrs ) Aaron Vernon Heyer was booked into jail Friday on a charge of first-degree assault.

Investigators say a caller told emergency dispatchers a 1-year-old boy was not conscious or breathing after he fell from a coffee table and was placed in a cold bath. Authorities didn’t believe the story.

Three other children ranging in age from 2 to 6 were also removed from the residence.

Albany police officials said the child remains in the children’s intensive care unit at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

30-year-old Heyer is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. First-degree assault carries a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years and six months in prison.
