CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A man held on charges he robbed a Cranston hair salon then stole a car with a mother and child inside says he’s innocent.

Thirty-three-year-old Jerry Cintron of Pawtucket spoke during his initial arraignment before a justice of the peace Friday night.

He was arrested on Tuesday in Lisbon, Connecticut.

Cintron is accused of robbing the salon March 29. Police said he walked away and later jumped into the driver’s seat of a stopped car with a woman in the passenger seat and her 1-year-old son in the back. Police said he drove to another street, and got into another car that was waiting. The woman and child weren’t hurt.

Cintron’s bail in the case was set at $50,000. He was held without bail on an earlier, unrelated bail violation. He will appear in court Monday.
