MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Montgomery police department has started a restructuring that will divide policing duties into sectors.

The Montgomery Advertiser (https://on.mgmadv.com/1JzIVlY ) reports the city’s sole patrol division will be eliminated and replaced by two sectors. A major will command each sector.

Police Chief Ernest Finley made the plan official Friday.

Finley said the plan would promote accountability and responsibility. The majors overseeing each sector will be responsible for issues as small as littering and as serious as robberies and homicides.
