DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 7-year-old boy has drowned in a South Florida pool during a family cookout.

Broward Sheriff’s officials say Maliq Singletary was with his aunt visiting a friend from church Saturday. The children got out of the pool when the party ended, but Maliq and his cousin ran and jumped back in the pool.

When Maliq didn’t come up to the surface, the homeowner rushed outside and pulled the boy out of the pool. Maliq’s aunt and other adults performed CPR.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

BSO homicide detectives are investigating.
