CHICAGO (AP) - Police say a Chicago man has been charged after an 8-year-old boy accidentally was shot and wounded last week while playing with a gun.

Chicago police say 34-year-old Jeffery Williams faces one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and misdemeanor counts including endangering a child. The boy’s mother, 31-year-old Micquelyn Biles, also is charged in the case.

Police say Biles’ son and another boy found the gun Tuesday morning. Police say the gun accidentally went off when the children were handling it and Biles’ son was struck in the abdomen.

Illinois Department of Correction records show Williams was paroled in January after receiving a 30-month sentence for drug charges.

Biles and Williams do not have listed phone numbers.
