JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Firefighters have contained a Riverside County fire that destroyed a home and damaged four others.

The eight-acre blaze erupted shortly before noon in a field in Jurupa (Huh-ROO’-puh) Valley and was pushed by winds gusting at times to 30 mph.

About 25 homes were evacuated before the fire was surrounded about 4 ½ hours later.

One firefighter and a civilian were treated for minor injuries.

Veronica Orozco tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1CRkjAJ ) that 10 people lived in the destroyed home, and they lost all their belongings.

Four other homes had damage to yards or outbuildings.

Firefighters also fought a three-acre blaze in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier but no homes were threatened and the fire was contained without injuries.

It’s not known what sparked either fire.
