TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - New Alabama coach Avery Johnson landed his first recruit when the state’s Mr. Basketball Dazon Ingram signed with the Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard announced his decision to play for the Tide at Theodore High School on Friday. He had previously signed scholarship papers to attend Alabama but re-opened his recruitment after the firing of coach Anthony Grant in December.

Johnson said he essentially “had to start all over with him.”

Ingram averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead Class 7A Theodore to the state semifinals for the first time.

He is the first Mr. Basketball award winner to sign with the Tide since Trevor Lacey in 2011.

Alabama still has three scholarships remaining after the departure of guards Ricky Tarrant and Devin Mitchell.
