ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) - The family of a 12-year-old boy who drowned in a Minnesota school swimming pool has reached a $3 million settlement with the district.

Abdullahi Charif was found floating in the pool at St. Louis Park Middle School on Feb. 27, 2014 He died a few days later.

Attorneys for the Charif family say the school district agreed to pay its entire insurance limit of $3 million after the family filed a motion seeking punitive damages.

The lawsuit contended that the district and the gym teacher supervising Charif’s class failed to properly supervise the boy, who was unable to swim.

Minnesota Public Radio News (https://bit.ly/1yGZeHc ) reports the school district said it was pleased the parties reached a “reasonable settlement.”

Police investigated, but the Hennepin County Attorney’s office declined to charge anyone.
