ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Ann Arbor is turning the need to repaint a 500,000-gallon water tower into an art contest.

The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/1BTAUmN ) the city is calling on artists and students to submit ideas that could adorn the tower. The top “Art in the Sky” design will be put on the tower and the winner gets $500.

City officials have said it’s estimated to cost $500,000 to $600,000 to repaint the tower; adding public art could cost another $30,000 to $60,000.

The contest is free to enter and open to Ann Arbor residents and students living in Ann Arbor. The deadline to enter is June 1. The city has provided a downloadable template on its website with an outline of the water tower to use for submitting designs.
