ATTICA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 35-year-old man has died after an accident while cutting a tree in Lapeer County.

The sheriff’s department says Jeremy Machiela of Columbiaville and four family members were removing two 60-foot-tall trees at a home in Attica Township on Wednesday afternoon when he was killed.

The department says Machiela was about 30 feet off the ground in a bucket lift when part of the tree fell into the lift, sending it crashing down onto a shed. The department says he was wearing a safety harness but was thrown from the lift during the accident.

He was pronounced dead at the scene about 45 miles north of Detroit. The sheriff’s department says the death is under investigation.
