MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an autopsy is planned on an Alabama A&M; University student whose body was found in a pond at the school’s research farm in Meridianville.

Madison County sheriff’s spokesman Jeremy Hughes tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1EFyY7q ) that investigators are treating the case as a crime until they determine how the woman got there and a cause of death.

University officials helped investigators identify the woman Wednesday morning. Hughes says her identity was being withheld until her family is notified.

The student’s body will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. Hughes says it’s unclear how long the woman’s body was submerged, or if she had been reported missing.
