CENTER POINT, Ala. (AP) - A of a 10-year-old boy wounded in a shooting in Center Point says the boy is expected to recover.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokesman Randy Christian said in a statement that the child was shot in the stomach in the Wednesday afternoon shooting northeast of Birmingham.

Center Point Mayor Tom Henderson tells Al.com that a man walking down the street was being chased by a dog, started shooting at it and missed.

Center Point Fire Chief Donnie West says a second person was treated on the scene and the boy was taken to Children’s of Alabama.

The child’s great aunt, Mary Brooks, tells WBRC-TV that the boy was shot in the stomach, but it missed his liver and he’s expected to be OK.

Investigators were searching for the shooter.
